Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate
26-0-0-14
Immediately effective in both cool and warm weather Ideal Nitrogen : Sulphur fertiliser for all crops including process and fresh vegetables, pasture, hay and silage, maize and cereals. No volatile N losses so application timing very flexible.

Granular Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate 26%N
Nutrients
- 26% Nitrogen
- 7% NO3-Nitrate-N
- 19% NH4-Ammonium-N
- 14% Sulphur as sulphate
- 40% Total Nutrient Content
Physical properties
Granular solid fertiliser, surface treated for improved transport and storage properties. Ideal particle size for both drilling and side dressing as 85% of granules are 2.0-5.0mm in diameter. Bulk density is approximately 0.95 t/m3, appropriate for uniform spreading.
Two forms of nitrogen
Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate contains both quick acting Nitrate-N and the slower acting Ammonium-N Extensive world-wide research has demonstrated superior plant performance where both these forms of nitrogen are present in a fertiliser, compared to either form used alone.
|
Effect of temperature
Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate has major advantages in cool conditions as its fast acting Nitrate-N component can still be taken up by plants. Soil temperature strongly effects nitrification rate (NH4 to NO3) as approximately shown.
Pasture
With Nitrate-N immediately available, pasture production is improved during the cooler autumn and spring periods. Readily available sulphate sulphur meets immediate pasture requirements in spring, also contributing to soil sulphur reserves. Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate is suited for pastures at drilling, also as a nitrogen/sulphur fertiliser for hay and silage. Application rates: Broadcast 125-250 kg/ha (32-65 kgN/ha)

Cereals
Early Season
Ideal cool season nitrogen fertiliser, as Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate has 7% immediately available Nitrate-N early season growth. The synergistic effect of mixed nitrogen nutrition (Nitrate-N plus Ammonium-N) has proven to increase early plant growth and tiller production in cereals compared to either form of nitrogen alone. Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate contains sulphate sulphur to meet early season crop requirements. At drilling and/or early tiller development apply 150-200 kg/ha (40-50 kg N/ha).
Mid Season
Apply Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate to optimise milling quality through higher grain protein and improved dough development. Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate’s N:S ratio of 2.1 provides a good balance of nitrogen and sulphur. During stem elongation apply 150-200 kg/ha (40-50kg N/ha).
Grass Seed
Autumn
To improve tiller initiation apply 115-135 kg/ha (30-35 kg N/ha) of Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate.
Spring
To enhance autumn initiated tiller survival apply 200 kg/ha (50 kg N/ha) Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate.

AgResearch trials in 1995 confirmed that:
- ASN produced significantly more pasture dry matter than other N forms
- The positive responses were maintained through to the final cut (57-77 days after application)
- “…it would be fair to conclude that ASN has a significant advantage over Urea…at mean soil temperatures below 6°C” Dr AHC Roberts AgResearch Ruakura
Temporary Sulphur deficiencies are often observed in winter because:
- low soil temperatures- lack of mineralisation
- High rainfall and leaching
ASN Cold Start™ combines readily available Sulphate S with Nitrogen for maximum pasture growth.
In 15 trials throughout NZ, ASN ColdStart™ improved N responses over urea by an average of 75%
Dr Jamie Blennerhassett, Summit Quinphos
- Applying ASN at 50 kg N/ha, based on the above findings, would yield a net return of $48.73* more than urea
- * Assumes a dairy payout of $5.70 / kg MS
